Sadly, we just missed securing a great spot with our NAP Ike Sport last weekend. There’s a three-day live racing event on ITV this weekend, beginning with the first day of the Windsor Million meeting tomorrow, along with All Weather Champs Trials at Newcastle. I’ll be covering the Saturday and Sunday live ITV cards for TXMarkets, but I have my eye on a horse at promising odds that might be a good e/w bet at Newcastle tomorrow.
Linda Perratt is a trainer I’ve followed for quite some time. When I began focusing on identifying big priced e/w bets, she was among the first trainers I noticed, though she typically operates at a much lower level than this.
Stable Star
She runs her stable star here, The Caltonian, and I believe this horse is significantly underpriced at 28/1 odds. By Swiss Spirit, this 7-year-old was beaten just over 4 lengths in this race last year but was running off a mark of 93. He returns to try again with an off 88, and the last time he ran off that mark over C&D, he won, with Kieran O’Neill aboard.
The Caltonian’s last two runs, both at this venue, indicate his chance is approaching. He was beaten just 2 lengths after not getting a clear run over C&D in November. He was 0.5 lengths behind Heavenly Heather that day, conceding 11lbs. He gets 1lb from that rival here, yet he is 28s while Heavenly Heather is 14s.
The Caltonian finished sixth over 5f here last time, showing a strong finish. The step back up to 6f is very advantageous, and if he settles early and finds gaps in the final furlong, The Caltonian could be in the money at odds of 28/1.
