Unfortunately, we narrowly missed out on a prime spot with our NAP Ike Sport last weekend. This weekend, there’s a three-day live racing event on ITV, starting with the Windsor Million meeting’s first day tomorrow, along with the All Weather Champs Trials at Newcastle. I’ll be analyzing the Saturday and Sunday live ITV cards for TXMarkets, but I’ve noticed a horse with appealing odds that could be a strong e/w bet at Newcastle tomorrow.
Linda Perratt is a trainer I’ve been following for quite a while. When I started concentrating on finding high-priced e/w bets, she was one of the first trainers that caught my attention, even though she usually operates on a much smaller scale.
Stable Star
Her stable star, The Caltonian, is running here, and I think this horse is greatly undervalued at 28/1 odds. This 7-year-old, sired by Swiss Spirit, was beaten by just over 4 lengths in this race last year racing off a mark of 93. He returns this year with a mark of 88, and the last time he raced off this mark over C&D, he won with Kieran O’Neill riding.
The Caltonian’s last two performances, both at this track, suggest his opportunity is nearing. In November, he was beaten by just 2 lengths after not finding a clear path over C&D. He was 0.5 lengths behind Heavenly Heather on that day, conceding 11lbs. Now, he receives 1lb from that same rival here, yet he’s at 28s compared to Heavenly Heather’s 14s.
The Caltonian finished sixth over 5f here last time, showing a great finish. The return to 6f is highly beneficial, and if he settles early and finds openings in the last furlong, The Caltonian could finish in the money at 28/1 odds.
