The Cleveland Cavaliers are already experiencing injury troubles with Jarrett Allen sustaining a broken left ring finger. The injury happened during Wednesday’s defeat to the Boston Celtics, and a Thursday X-ray showed a non-displaced fracture. The Cavaliers believe he can receive several treatments. Allen missed Friday’s game against the Toronto Raptors and is likely to miss Sunday’s match against the Atlanta Hawks. The Cavaliers are being cautious considering his injury. In the first five games, Allen has averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 steals, with a 57.5 percent shooting rate over 27.0 minutes per game. He’s scored in double figures three times, surpassing 15 points in each of those.
Donovan Mitchell might also miss time after leaving Wednesday’s 112-101 loss to the Celtics early due to left hamstring tightness. He started the season strong, averaging a team-best 28.0 points and 4.4 assists while maintaining a 54.4 percent shooting rate and a career-high 40.0 percent from the three-point range. Before playing the Celtics, Mitchell scored 20 or more points in each of the first games, hitting at least 30 points three times.
Cleveland is managing significant injuries with starting point guard Darius Garland (toe) and forward Max Strus (foot) still recovering post-offseason surgery. Heading into the game against the Hawks on Sunday, the Cavaliers have a 3-3 record.
