Coventry City fans joyfully sang, “We are top of the league,” as their team returned to the top of the Championship standings, easing pressure on Frank Lampard and his squad. Despite leading the season for most of its duration, Coventry had only secured four wins since late November. Haji Wright’s crucial hat-trick allowed Coventry to reclaim their position from Middlesbrough, whose six-game winning streak was sharply interrupted. Although Riley McGree scored midway through the second half, a penalty conceded right after the restart enabled Wright to complete his hat-trick. Coventry’s lead is narrow, just a point, but this victory was significant both in score and morale, having previously managed only 16 points out of a possible 39.
