Just hours before the trade deadline, the Dallas Cowboys made a significant move by acquiring star defensive lineman Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets.
Dallas exchanged a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith. The 2027 first-round pick is expected to be the better of the Cowboys’ selections in that draft year.
Williams is considered one of the league’s top defensive linemen, earning his Pro Bowl selections over the last three seasons and an All-Pro nod in 2022. In the first eight games of the current season, he recorded 32 tackles, one sack, seven tackles for loss, and a career-best three forced fumbles.
The 27-year-old is in the second year of his four-year, $96 million contract, with no dead-cap hit for the last year in 2027.
On Tuesday, the Cowboys also traded for linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick. Wilson has achieved over 100 tackles in each of the past four seasons. The 29-year-old is in the second year of his four-year, $36 million contract.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed enthusiasm about the trade deadline moves, which could boost the Cowboys for the second half of the season.
“It’s exciting. Kudos to Jerry and Stephen (Jones) and Will (McClay) for being aggressive but smart with the moves we made. You’re getting guys not just for this year, but beyond, which is great,” Schottenheimer said. “It gets you excited as a coach, and I think it’s two terrific players, but also terrific young men.”
The Cowboys hold a 3-5-1 record heading into their Week 10 bye.
