Just before the trade deadline, the Dallas Cowboys made a major move by acquiring star defensive lineman Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets.
Dallas traded a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith. The 2027 first-round pick is anticipated to be the Cowboys’ top selection in that draft.
Williams, considered one of the league’s premier defensive linemen, has earned Pro Bowl selections over the last three seasons and an All-Pro nod in 2022. In the first eight games this year, he recorded 32 combined tackles, one sack, seven tackles for loss, and a career-high three forced fumbles.
The 27-year-old is in the second year of his four-year, $96 million extension, which carries no dead-cap hit in the final year of 2027.
On Tuesday, the Cowboys also traded for linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick. Wilson has amassed 100 or more tackles each of the past four seasons. The 29-year-old is in the second year of his four-year, $36 million contract.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed excitement about the trades, which could propel the Cowboys in the season’s second half.
“It’s exciting. Kudos to Jerry and Stephen (Jones) and Will (McClay) for being aggressive yet smart because the moves bring players not just for this year, but beyond, which is great,” Schottenheimer said. “It gets you excited as a coach, and I think both are terrific players and outstanding young men.”
The Cowboys have a 3-5-1 record heading into their Week 10 bye.
