Just before the trade deadline, the Dallas Cowboys secured star defensive lineman Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets.
Dallas traded a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round selection, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith. The 2027 first-round pick is anticipated to be the most valuable of the Cowboys’ first-round choices in that draft.
Williams is considered one of the league’s top defensive linemen, having made the Pro Bowl over the past three seasons and earning an All-Pro nod in 2022. In the first eight games this season, he recorded 32 combined tackles, one sack, seven tackles for loss, and a career-high three forced fumbles.
At 27, Williams is in the second year of a four-year, $96 million deal that carries no dead-cap hit for its final year in 2027.
Additionally, the Cowboys acquired linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals for a 2026 seventh-round pick. Wilson has consistently recorded 100 or more tackles in each of the last four seasons. The 29-year-old is in the second year of a four-year, $36 million contract.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed enthusiasm about these trades, seeing them as a boost for the Cowboys into the latter half of the season.
“It’s exciting. Kudos to Jerry and Stephen (Jones) and Will (McClay) for being aggressive but smart because you’re getting guys not just for this year, but beyond, which I think is great,” Schottenheimer stated. “It gets you excited as a coach, and I think it’s two terrific players, but also terrific young men.”
The Cowboys currently hold a 3-5-1 record as they enter their Week 10 bye.
