Just hours before the trade deadline, the Dallas Cowboys made a major move by acquiring star defensive lineman Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets.
Dallas traded a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round selection, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith. The 2027 first-round pick is expected to be the better of the Cowboys’ first-round choices in that draft.
Williams is considered one of the league’s top defensive linemen, having earned all three of his Pro Bowl selections over the past three seasons, along with his sole All-Pro nod (2022). In the first eight games of this year, he recorded 32 combined tackles, one sack, seven tackles for loss, and a career-best three forced fumbles.
The 27-year-old is in the second year of his four-year, $96 million extension, which has no dead-cap hit for the final year in the 2027 campaign.
On Tuesday, the Cowboys also traded for linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round selection. Wilson has recorded 100 or more tackles in each of the last four seasons. The 29-year-old is in the second year of his four-year, $36 million deal.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed enthusiasm about the trade deadline moves that could give the Cowboys a boost in the second half of the season.
“It’s exciting. Kudos to Jerry and Stephen (Jones) and Will (McClay), and I think being aggressive but smart because (it’s) a couple of the moves we made you’re getting guys not just for this year, but beyond, which I think is great,” Schottenheimer said. “It gets you excited as a coach, and I think it’s two terrific players, but also terrific young men.”
The Cowboys have a 3-5-1 record heading into their Week 10 bye.
