Just before the trade deadline, the Dallas Cowboys made a significant move by acquiring star defensive lineman Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets.
Dallas traded a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith. The 2027 first-round pick is anticipated to be the more favorable of the Cowboys’ selections in that draft.
Williams is esteemed as one of the premier defensive linemen in the league, having earned three Pro Bowl selections over the last three seasons, along with an All-Pro recognition in 2022. In the first eight games of this season, he recorded 32 combined tackles, one sack, seven tackles for loss, and a career-high three forced fumbles.
The 27-year-old is currently in the second year of his four-year, $96 million extension, which carries no dead-cap hit in the final year in 2027.
On Tuesday, the Cowboys also traded for linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals, giving up a 2026 seventh-round selection. Wilson has achieved 100 or more tackles in each of the past four seasons. The 29-year-old is in the second year of his four-year, $36 million contract.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer conveyed enthusiasm regarding the trade deadline moves, which could boost the Cowboys in the latter half of the season.
“It’s exciting. Kudos to Jerry and Stephen (Jones) and Will (McClay) and I think being aggressive but smart because (it’s) a couple of the moves we made you’re getting guys not just for this year, but beyond, which I think is great,” Schottenheimer said. “It gets you excited as a coach, and I think it’s two terrific players, but also terrific young men.”
The Cowboys currently hold a 3-5-1 record heading into their Week 10 bye.
