Just before the trade deadline, the Dallas Cowboys made a significant move by securing star defensive lineman Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets.
Dallas traded a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith. The 2027 first-round pick is anticipated to be the more valuable of the Cowboys’ first-round choices in that draft.
Williams is recognized as one of the league’s premier defensive linemen, having earned three Pro Bowl selections over the past three seasons, along with an All-Pro honor in 2022. In the first eight games of this season, he recorded 32 combined tackles, one sack, seven tackles for loss, and a career-high three forced fumbles.
The 27-year-old is in the second year of his four-year, $96 million extension, which has no dead-cap hit for the final year in 2027.
The Cowboys also traded for linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick. Wilson has made 100 or more tackles in each of the last four seasons. The 29-year-old is in the second year of his four-year, $36 million contract.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed enthusiasm about the trades, which could provide the Cowboys with a boost for the second half of the season.
“It’s exciting. Kudos to Jerry and Stephen (Jones) and Will (McClay) for being aggressive yet smart because the moves we made bring in players not just for this year, but beyond, which is great,” Schottenheimer said. “It gets you excited as a coach, and these are two terrific players and young men.”
The Cowboys have a 3-5-1 record as they head into their Week 10 bye.
