49ers Coach Kyle Shanahan Makes Notable Admission About Brock Purdy - SCCG Management

The San Francisco 49ers were defeated by the Los Angeles Rams in a 42-26 home loss on Sunday. Without starting quarterback Brock Purdy, the 49ers opted for Mac Jones to lead the game.

Jones delivered another strong performance against the Rams, completing 33-of-39 passes for 319 yards, with three touchdown passes and one interception. Despite this, Los Angeles maintained the lead.

Post-game, head coach Kyle Shanahan admitted that they could have started Purdy but chose to keep him benched for an additional week.

“He could have gone, definitely,” Shanahan said. “I just decided to hold him, not put him in that situation. . . . I do believe he’s closer and further along than what he was at that time, so hopefully, he’ll have a chance this week.”

The 49ers have remained cautious with Purdy’s recovery from a toe injury that has sidelined him since Week 4.

San Francisco has been cautious, thanks to Jones’s consistent performance, holding a 5-3 record as a starter. This has allowed Purdy ample time to heal fully and return when ready. Shanahan’s statements suggest Purdy should return next Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
