Kyle Shanahan's Revealing Comment on Brock Purdy - SCCG Management

The San Francisco 49ers were defeated by the Los Angeles Rams 42-26 at home on Sunday. Once again, the 49ers chose not to start quarterback Brock Purdy, opting for Mac Jones to lead.

Jones had another strong performance against the Rams, completing 33-of-39 passes for 319 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. However, it wasn’t enough to outmatch Los Angeles.

Post-game, head coach Kyle Shanahan disclosed that Purdy could have started, but they decided to keep him benched for another week.

“He could have gone, definitely,” Shanahan stated. “I just decided to hold him, not put him in that situation. I do believe he’s closer and further along than what he was at that time, so hopefully, he’ll have a chance this week.”

The 49ers continue to be cautious with Purdy’s recovery from a toe injury that has kept him out since Week 4.

San Francisco has been able to take this approach due to the consistent performance from Jones, who has a 5-3 record as the starter.

This has provided Purdy ample time to fully heal before returning. Shanahan’s comments suggest Purdy is likely to start next Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
