Stephen Findeisen, known as Coffeezilla to his 4.4 million YouTube followers, reported being offered $1 million by a licensed sportsbook to help with legal costs from a lawsuit filed by influencer Logan Paul. Coffeezilla, who is recognized for investigating scams, discussed this offer in a video about an online gambling “epidemic.”
The seven-figure offer was meant to cover legal expenses from a defamation case filed by WWE star Paul related to his unsuccessful blockchain game, CryptoZoo. The offer came from an unidentified high-ranking source, who claimed their company was legitimate and regulated. Despite this, Coffeezilla declined the offer due to conflicting journalistic standards and his anti-gambling stance.
He stated, “There’s no such thing as $1m, no strings attached,” and noted he couldn’t accept such an offer and then criticize sports betting in his videos. Coffeezilla also mentioned that a casino previously offered him $20,000 to critique an unregulated competitor.
This exposé follows a Pew Research Center survey of nearly 10,000 US adults, indicating that 43% believe legal sports betting is detrimental to society, a 9% increase from a similar poll in 2022.
