Stephen Findeisen, known to his 4.4 million YouTube followers as Coffeezilla, claimed he was offered $1 million by a licensed sportsbook to help with his legal expenses in a lawsuit initiated by influencer Logan Paul.
In a recent video, Coffeezilla, who is known for investigating scams and fraud, mentioned the offer while discussing an online gambling “epidemic.”
The seven-figure sum, according to Coffeezilla, was intended to cover his legal costs in a defamation lawsuit filed by WWE star Paul over his failed blockchain game, CryptoZoo. The YouTuber stated the money came from an anonymous high-level source.
He was told the sportsbook was regulated and legitimate. However, Coffeezilla declined the offer due to conflicts with his journalistic ethics and anti-gambling stance, stating, “Thank you for the offer, but you know, in my head, there’s no such thing as $1 million, no strings attached.”
He emphasized that accepting money from a sports betting company would be hypocritical, given his anti-gambling content. Additionally, earlier reports showed a casino had offered him $20,000 to create a video against an unregulated competitor.
This revelation follows a Pew Research Center survey of nearly 10,000 US adults, which indicated that 43% believe legal sports betting is harmful to society, marking a 9% increase from a similar 2022 poll.
