Arsenal v Chelsea drew only 71,000 viewers
Saturday noon kick-off cited as a factor in decline
The Women’s Super League is worried about the broadcast times set by its main rights holder, Sky Sports, this season after just 71,000 people tuned in to watch the high-profile clash between Arsenal and Chelsea this month.
The average audience on Sky Sports Main Event was 55,900, which was lower than the 57,000 who attended the game at Emirates Stadium. An additional 15,100 viewers watched on Sky Sports Premier League. Last season, the same fixture drew an audience of 732,000 because it was available free-to-air on the BBC and scheduled during the men’s international break.
