The Golden State Warriors will be without star point guard Stephen Curry for at least a week due to a quad contusion. The injury occurred during Wednesday’s home loss to the Houston Rockets after he attempted to take a charge on Amen Thompson with 3:24 left in the fourth quarter. Curry exited the game in the final minute of regulation, and the team believes he avoided any significant issues.
“When I heard it was a quad, I was actually relieved,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said postgame. “Better than an ankle or a knee.”
The Warriors are in the eighth spot in the Western Conference standings with an 11-10 record, having split their last 10 games. Curry will likely miss several games, sidelining him into early mid-December. He is averaging 27.9 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 47.1 percent from the floor and 39.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Curry has scored 20 or more points in 11 of his first 16 games played, including three 40-point performances. Curry’s 13 career games with 40 points after turning 35 years old broke a tie with Michael Jordan and only trails LeBron James (15).
His absence will elevate both Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green into increased roles as playmakers as the primary ball handlers. Butler will likely take on the leading scorer spot, having notched 24 points in Saturday’s win over the New Orleans Pelicans.
