The Golden State Warriors will be without star point guard Stephen Curry for at least a week due to a quad contusion. The injury happened during Wednesday’s loss to the Houston Rockets after he attempted to take a charge on Amen Thompson with 3:24 left in the fourth quarter. Curry exited the game in the final minute of regulation. The team believes he avoided any serious issues.
“When I heard it was a quad, I was actually relieved,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said postgame. “Better than an ankle or a knee.”
The Warriors currently hold the eighth spot in the Western Conference standings with an 11-10 record, having split their last 10 games. Curry will likely miss several games, keeping him off the court into early to mid-December.
Curry is having another productive season, averaging 27.9 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 47.1 percent from the floor and 39.1 percent from beyond the arc. He has scored 20 or more points in 11 of his first 16 games, including three 40-point performances. Curry’s 13 career games with 40 points after turning 35 years old broke a tie with Michael Jordan and only trails LeBron James (15).
His absence will increase responsibilities for both Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green as primary ball handlers. Butler will likely assume the leading scorer role as he scored 24 points in Saturday’s win over the New Orleans Pelicans.
