Las Vegas is experiencing a rise in consumer spending and job rates despite a tourism downturn, with the Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation noting a 0.4% increase in employment for September. The city saw the addition of 4,400 jobs, hinting at a potential recovery. Nevada’s hospitality sector added 5,100 jobs, with hopes for continued growth in the upcoming months.
However, concerns remain as the UNLV’s Center for Business and Economic Research reports low confidence levels in Southern Nevada, the lowest since the Great Recession. Consumer spending has slightly increased, but visitor numbers in October fell by 4.4% compared to last year. Up to October, Las Vegas had 32.3 million visitors, a 7.6% decrease from 2024.
The UNLV’s Center for Business Research remains cautious, noting a slowing economic trajectory. Nonetheless, Las Vegas experienced a boost in tourism during the Thanksgiving holiday. “Thanksgiving travel numbers are always impressive because this holiday has become synonymous with heading out of town to spend time with loved ones,” said AAA VP of travel, Stacey Barber.
