Las Vegas is experiencing a slight rise in consumer spending and job rates in September, despite a tourism downturn. The Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation reported a 0.4% job increase, with 4,400 jobs added, suggesting some recovery for Sin City. The hospitality sector in Nevada saw a boost with 5,100 new jobs, hoping for continued growth in the coming months.
Concerns remain, as UNLV’s Center for Business and Economic Research noted low confidence levels in Southern Nevada, the lowest since the Great Recession. While consumer spending has upticked, October’s visitor numbers dropped 4.4% from last year, with 32.3 million visiting Las Vegas through October, a 7.6% decrease from 2024.
UNLV’s Center for Business Research is cautious about Las Vegas’ future, citing an economic slowdown. However, the city saw a tourism boost with the Thanksgiving holiday. “Thanksgiving travel numbers are always impressive because this holiday has become synonymous with heading out of town to spend time with loved ones,” said AAA’s VP of travel, Stacey Barber.
