The Sparks Police Department confirmed that a lone gunman was successfully neutralized after opening fire outside the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno on Monday, July 28. The shooter killed three individuals and injured another three.
The shooter, who was injured and taken into custody, initially experienced a firearm malfunction, potentially preventing more casualties. After resolving the issue, the gunman opened fire, killing one person instantly. Four others were hospitalized, with one succumbing to injuries during treatment. A security guard engaged with the gunman, who also shot and killed a driver. Police arrived shortly after, and an officer shot and subdued the assailant. Responders included Washoe County sheriff’s deputies, Nevada State Police, and Reno Fire. The incident occurred at 7:25 am, according to KTVN-TV/Reno.
Current reports confirm three deceased and three injured, with numbers under review. The Grand Sierra Resort spokesperson expressed gratitude for the swift actions of their security team and the Reno Police Department, which helped prevent further harm. The Grand Sierra Resort is the largest gaming floor in northern Nevada, increasing the potential severity of such incidents.
