The Sparks Police Department confirmed that officers successfully stopped a single gunman who fired shots outside the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno on Monday, July 28. The attacker shot three individuals and injured three others.
The Grand Sierra Resort and Casino Shooter Injured, Taken into Custody
The suspect began shooting near the entrance of the building after a firearm malfunction, potentially reducing the number of casualties. After several attempts to fix the weapon, the shooter finally opened fire.
The delay in the attack might have minimized harm. Once the shooting commenced, multiple shots were fired into groups, resulting in one immediate fatality. Four people were hospitalized, with one succumbing to injuries during treatment.
A security guard on the scene engaged the shooter, who returned fire.
The attacker also fatally shot a driver in their vehicle. As the incident unfolded, police arrived promptly, and an officer engaged the shooter, successfully subduing him.
First responders included Washoe County sheriff’s deputies, Nevada State Police, and Reno Fire, among others.
The shooter’s motives remain unknown, with no additional information on his condition. The attack occurred at 7:25 am, according to KTVN-TV/Reno.
3 Victims and 3 Injured People with Numbers Still Updated
Three fatalities and three injuries have been reported, but these numbers are subject to change. A Grand Sierra Resort spokesperson stated:
“We are incredibly grateful for the swift and courageous response by our armed security team, whose immediate actions helped prevent further harm. We also want to thank the Reno Police Department for their rapid assistance and coordination, which was instrumental in quickly eliminating the threat and protecting lives.”
The Grand Sierra Resort has the largest gaming floor in northern Nevada, making any such incidents potentially more hazardous.
