Lucy and Pippa Tallant have launched the Crossbar in Brighton to provide a welcoming space for women to enjoy sports.
The striking “Crossbar” sign, bordered by two black crosses on white walls, stands prominently near Brighton’s Churchill Square. Co-owner Lucy Tallant, a DIY enthusiast, installed a wall shelf outside for patrons wishing to linger. During its installation, two girls walked by, with one remarking, “Yeah, they’re opening a lesbian club.” Her friend replied, “A lesbian club?” followed by, “Yeah, there’s one outside now.”
Lucy found this hilarious and shared the encounter on social media, where it also amused others. The shelf has since become popular, with lesbians taking photos alongside it, using the phrase “there’s one outside now” as a caption.
