The Yankees have bolstered their pitching depth by acquiring left-hander Ryan Weathers from the Miami Marlins in exchange for four prospects. Infielders Dylan Jasso and Juan Matheus, along with outfielders Dillon Lewis and Brendan Jones, are headed to Miami. Lewis was a key target for the Marlins, as they had previously shown interest in him during discussions about Edward Cabrera, who recently joined the Chicago Cubs.
Despite being 26, Weathers is viewed as a high-potential starter. Last season, he was limited to eight starts due to flexor and lat strains, achieving a 3.99 ERA with 37 strikeouts across 38.1 innings. His career record stands at 12-23 with a 4.93 ERA over five major league seasons.
Recently, he increased his fastball’s average speed to 96.8 mph, placing him in the 86th percentile among MLB pitchers in 2025. His walk rate over the past two seasons has been around 7%, an above-average rate.
Weathers adds depth to the Yankees’ rotation, especially with Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon starting the 2026 season on the injured list. When they return, Weathers could continue as a No. 5 starter behind Max Fried and Cam Schlittler.
