The Yankees have bolstered their pitching lineup by acquiring left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers from the Miami Marlins in exchange for four prospects.
Infielders Dylan Jasso and Juan Matheus, along with outfielders Dillon Lewis and Brendan Jones, are heading to Miami.
Lewis was a key target for the Marlins, who had previously shown interest in him during discussions about pitcher Edward Cabrera, who was recently traded to the Chicago Cubs.
At 26, Weathers is still considered a promising starter. His previous season was cut short to eight starts due to injuries, resulting in a 3.99 ERA, 37 strikeouts, and 12 walks over 38.1 innings. Over five MLB seasons, his record stands at 12-23 with a 4.93 ERA.
Recently, Weathers increased his fastball velocity to 96.8 mph, placing him in the 86th percentile among MLB pitchers in 2025. His walk rate has been around 7% over the last two seasons, an impressive statistic.
This acquisition offers the Yankees additional rotation security, especially with Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon starting the 2026 season on the injured list. Even after their return, Weathers could maintain a role as the No. 5 starter alongside Max Fried and Cam Schlittler.
