Everton duo push for England spots, Jaydee Canvot shines at Crystal Palace, and Benjamin Sesko faces adaptation challenges
While the focus was on Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham’s return to the England squad, Nico O’Reilly’s inclusion in Thomas Tuchel’s lineup received less attention. Myles Lewis-Skelly’s lack of playing time led to O’Reilly getting his chance to vie for a World Cup spot. The 20-year-old enters the camp having recently managed to keep Mohamed Salah at bay. Though this may not be as impressive as it once was, O’Reilly’s perseverance and patience against the persistent Salah were noteworthy. The City defender frequently dispossessed the Egyptian, pleasing the home crowd, and advanced effectively. If Pep Guardiola trusts O’Reilly in major matches and he stays injury-free, there’s no reason he can’t secure a spot in England’s backline. Tom Bassam
