Last weekend, we just missed out on a great spot with our NAP Ike Sport. This weekend features three days of live racing on ITV, starting with the opening day of the Windsor Million meeting tomorrow, alongside All Weather Champs Trials at Newcastle. I’ll be covering the live ITV Saturday and Sunday cards for TXMarkets, but there’s one horse at appealing odds that could be a good e/w bet at Newcastle tomorrow.
Linda Perratt is a trainer I’ve been following for quite some time. When I began focusing on identifying high-value e/w bets, she quickly caught my attention, though she typically operates at a lower level.
Stable Star
Her top horse, The Caltonian, runs here and is, I believe, vastly underrated at odds of 28/1. The 7-year-old, sired by Swiss Spirit, was just over 4 lengths behind in this race last year, running off a mark of 93. He returns to attempt once more off 88, and the last time he ran off that mark over C&D, he won (with Kieran O’Neill riding).
The Caltonian’s two most recent races, both at this track, indicate his time might be near. In November, he was beaten by just 2 lengths when he didn’t get a clear run over C&D. He was 0.5 lengths behind Heavenly Heather, giving away 11lbs. This time, he receives 1lb from that rival and yet is priced at 28s while Heavenly Heather is at 14s.
The Caltonian placed sixth over 5f here last time, finishing strongly. A return to 6f is advantageous, and he’ll undoubtedly give his best. If he settles early and finds the gaps in the final furlong, The Caltonian could clinch a place at odds of 28/1.
2026 Newcastle Friday Tip: The Caltonian e/w @ 28/1 (4 places) NAP
