The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported that total gross gaming revenue (GGR) across all casino‐type gaming, sports betting, video gaming terminals and fantasy contests reached $601.8 million in May 2025, marking a 15.5% increase over May 2024. This is the first month on record that combined GGR has exceeded the $600 million threshold.
Strong Performance Across All Segments
Retail slots remained the largest contributor at $224.9 million (up 5.0% year-over-year), while iGaming slots grew by 39.6% to $177.2 million. Internet table games added $52.9 million (up 17.8%), and online poker contributed $2.8 million (up 20.9%). Video gaming terminals and fantasy contests saw modest declines of 0.1% and 5.4%, respectively.
Sports Wagering Posts the Biggest Year-Over-Year Gain
Sports wagering handled almost $655.4 million in May – 10.7% more than the previous May, and generated taxable revenue of $59.4 million, a 34.4% increase compared to May 2024. That growth rate outpaced every other gaming category for the month, reflecting continued expansion of both retail and online sportsbooks across the state.
Tax Receipts and Future Outlook
Preliminary tax collections on May gaming revenue totaled approximately $255 million. With sports wagering – and especially online sports betting – driving much of the recent momentum, Pennsylvania’s gaming industry appears well positioned for steady growth into the summer sports schedule.
With summer’s MLB trade drama, NFL training camps, and soccer’s Copa América driving fresh interest, Pennsylvania’s sportsbooks show no signs of slowing. The state collected $21.3 million in sports betting taxes in May alone – funding infrastructure, education, and community programs statewide.
