A record scorer for Norway’s youth teams shares his aspirations for the World Cup, experiences of being sidelined at 15, and the disappointment of fake tickets at Anfield.
On 18 January 2014, Liverpool faced Aston Villa. A seven-year-old from Norway was filled with excitement for his first visit to Anfield. He eagerly anticipated watching his favorite player, Daniel Sturridge, and a dynamic team vying for the title. But as Sindre Walle Egeli and his family approached the entrance, they faced a harsh reality.
“It’s not a good memory,” Walle Egeli recalls. “We arrived, ready to go, only to find out our tickets were fake. I’m not sure what happened; maybe my parents bought them from unreliable sources. It was heartbreaking.”
