Norway’s record scorer for youth teams talks about his World Cup ambitions, being sidelined at 15, and a ticket scam at Anfield.
Liverpool versus Aston Villa on 18 January 2014. The excitement was palpable for a seven-year-old from Norway visiting Anfield for the first time. The anticipation of seeing his idol, Daniel Sturridge, and a dynamic team chasing the title was immense. However, as Sindre Walle Egeli and his family approached the entrance, disappointment struck.
“It’s not a good memory,” recalls Walle Egeli. “We arrived, ready to enjoy the match, only to discover our tickets were counterfeit. I’m unsure what went wrong; perhaps my parents purchased from unreliable sources. It was devastating.”
