The Norwegian’s incredible goalscoring exploits have become so extensive they scarcely need recounting, but at least now he’s doing it with a grin.
With 27 minutes gone and Manchester City leading 1-0, Erling Haaland performed something extraordinary and amusing. Appearing disinterested, he sauntered away from a free‑kick at the center circle, then suddenly turned, seized the ball, and charged directly at the Borussia Dortmund defense. Along with him came two desperate yellow shirts, struggling and futilely chasing the formidable figure ahead.
This was anything but reckless. It was a calculated act by Haaland, employing a superior force (basically, me) against a vulnerable point (that would be: all of you). Eventually, the ball broke free to Nico O’Reilly, all alone, as Dortmund’s entire defense was left in Haaland’s wake, by now clearly needing a larger vessel.
