After being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers six months ago, Luka Doncic has committed to the franchise by signing a significant long-term contract extension. Shams Charania of ESPN reports that the deal is a three-year, $165 million maximum extension with a player option in 2028, confirmed by agent Bill Duffy of WME Basketball. This extension keeps Doncic with the Lakers, preparing him for another major deal in 2028.
Luka Doncic expressed his gratitude in a statement following the signing. “I’m really grateful to the Lakers organization, my teammates and the fans for welcoming me and my family with so much support and kindness since day one,” Doncic stated. “This is an amazing organization, and I truly believe in what we’re building together. With Doncic’s future secured, attention shifts to LeBron James, who may be playing his final NBA season. The Lakers recently chose not to offer James a new contract, leading him to opt into the final year of his contract, which might set him up for retirement or a move to another team after the 2025-26 season.
