James Trafford did not anticipate Manchester City acquiring Gianluigi Donnarumma following his own transfer from Burnley last summer, which now sees the backup goalkeeper possibly exiting this summer. Trafford rejoined City from Turf Moor on 31 July for £31m, shortly before Pep Guardiola expressed interest in bringing Donnarumma to the club. The Italian joined on 2 September from Paris Saint-Germain for £26m, securing the position as Guardiola’s preferred choice.
