Marat Khusnutdinov scored the tying goal in regulation and secured the win in the shootout’s third round, leading the Boston Bruins to a 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. Khusnutdinov equalized for Boston with 4:54 left, capitalizing on Fraser Minten’s rebound. Islanders’ goalie Ilya Sorokin made 23 saves, while Bruins’ Jeremy Swayman stopped 27 shots and three more in the shootout. This defeat ended the Islanders’ two-game winning streak. Despite missing in the shootout, Bo Horvat remained on form with two goals in regulation, including a go-ahead in the third period. Anthony Duclair scored the first goal for the Islanders in the second period.
Horvat’s efforts did not go unnoticed, as Islanders captain Anders Lee praised his ability to create shots and score crucial goals. Duclair ended his goal drought by surprising Swayman with a wrist shot early in the second period. He emphasized the importance of keeping their play straightforward and aggressive on the forecheck. The game saw tensions rise when Nikita Zadorov tangled with Islanders rookie Matthew Schaefer, resulting in a penalty for Zadorov, though the Islanders couldn’t capitalize on the power play.
Viktor Arvidsson scored for the Bruins after a deflection, but Horvat quickly responded with his eighth goal of the season. Despite Sorokin’s impressive saves, the Bruins managed to score again on a power play with Pavel Zacha capitalizing. Horvat momentarily restored the Islanders’ lead early in the third period after a Schaefer penalty kill and pass set him up for a sharp strike past Swayman.
