The Norwegian’s goal-scoring achievements are so extensive they barely need recounting, but at least now he does it with a grin.
With 27 minutes played and Manchester City leading 1-0, Erling Haaland executed an extraordinary and amusing action. Pretending disinterest, he wandered away from a free-kick in the center circle, then abruptly turned, seized the ball, and charged directly at the Borussia Dortmund defense. He was pursued by two frantic yellow-shirted players, who struggled futilely to stop the formidable force in front of them.
There was no randomness in this move. It was a calculated exercise of power by Haaland, exploiting a vulnerability (in short, all of you) with sheer superiority (essentially, me). Eventually, the ball found its way to Nico O’Reilly, left in open space, as the entire Dortmund defense had been pulled along by Haaland’s momentum, now clearly needing more support.
