The New York Mets placed starting pitcher Griffin Canning on the 60-day injured list after he suffered a ruptured Achilles during his start against the Atlanta Braves. Blade Tidwell was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to fill his roster spot. Canning was having an impressive season with a 3.77 ERA in 16 starts after joining the Mets in free agency. His injury is a significant setback for the Mets’ already depleted starting rotation, with Kodai Senga and Tylor Megill also injured. Sean Manaea is expected to return in about a week and a half. Frankie Montas, who had a lat issue, made his season debut against the Braves after signing a two-year, $34 million deal.
