Following a 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 10, the New York Giants have decided to part ways with head coach Brian Daboll. Assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will step in as interim coach.
“The past few seasons have not met our expectations for this franchise,” Giants co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch stated. “We understand the frustrations of our fans and will work to deliver a significantly improved product.”
After leading the Giants to a 9-7-1 playoff season in his first year, the team has posted an 11-33 record over the last three seasons. Currently, the Giants are in last place in the NFC East with a 2-8 record, having lost their last four games. This marks the third straight year the team has won only two of its first ten games.
Although Daboll is departing, the Giants will keep Joe Schoen as general manager to oversee the search for a new head coach. Mara stated, “Joe has assembled a good young nucleus of talent. We take full responsibility for the past results and are committed to achieving the success our fans expect.”
New York will face the Green Bay Packers in Week 11.
