After a narrow 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 10, the New York Giants have dismissed head coach Brian Daboll. This decision places assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka in the role of interim coach.
“The past few seasons have been nothing short of disappointing, and we have not met our expectations for this franchise,” stated Giants co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch. “We understand the frustrations of our fans, and we will work to deliver a significantly improved product.”
In Daboll’s first season, the Giants made the playoffs with a 9-7-1 record. However, they’ve managed only an 11-33 record over the past three years. Currently, New York is last in the NFC East with a 2-8 record, having lost their last four games. This is the third consecutive year they’ve only secured two wins in their first 10 games.
Despite Daboll’s departure, Joe Schoen will remain as general manager and oversee the hiring of the next head coach. “We feel like Joe has assembled a good young nucleus of talent, and we look forward to its development,” said Mara. “Unfortunately, the results over the past three years have not been what any of us want. We take full responsibility for those results and look forward to the kind of success our fans expect.”
The Giants will host the Green Bay Packers in Week 11.
