The Las Vegas Raiders have struggled in the first 12 weeks, far from playoff contention. Quarterback Geno Smith faced criticism for his performance and recently for an inappropriate gesture to fans after a 24-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Smith apologized for the incident.
“I would like to apologize to the fans [and] Raider Nation,” Smith said via ESPN. “I made a poor judgment out of frustration. And that’s not an excuse. I’ve got to be better than that and hold myself to a higher standard. In that moment, I didn’t. I’m sincerely apologetic and very sorry for doing that. I just want to make it known that those things will never happen from me again.”
The Raiders have lost their last five games, standing at a 2-9 record. Smith’s performance has been a concern, with 13 interceptions and being sacked 41 times. He ranks 32nd with a 29.3 quarterback rating and holds an 82.4 passer rating.
The Raiders are 31st in scoring at 15.0 points per game, 25th in passing yards per game (189.5), and 31st in rushing yards per game (79.5).
