Resorts World Las Vegas has named former Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval as chairman of its board of directors, indicating a significant leadership change as the property addresses regulatory scrutiny and organizational shifts. Sandoval takes over from Jim Murren, who will continue with the company as chairman emeritus.
The move comes after almost a year of Sandoval’s board membership. His experience includes roles as Nevada’s governor, attorney general, chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission, and a federal judge. Resorts World executives believe his regulatory expertise and leadership background will aid in navigating compliance oversight.
This appointment follows a challenging period for the property, which agreed to a multimillion-dollar settlement with state regulators after a compliance investigation. The agreement included commitments to enhance internal controls, restructure departments, and increase board oversight.
Resorts World has undergone executive changes post-settlement. Alex Dixon, briefly CEO, moved to an advisory role, and Carlos Castro, previously in charge of operations and finances, became president. These shifts aim to stabilize management and emphasize regulatory accountability.
Sandoval’s promotion is part of this strategy, with his regulatory experience expected to influence upcoming policies and align the property with state requirements. The company aims to regain regulatory confidence and sustain operational progress.
Resorts World Las Vegas, which opened in 2021 as the first new Strip resort in over a decade, is backed by Genting and designed to compete with major operators. Recent leadership changes reflect its commitment to strengthening corporate governance for long-term stability.
With Sandoval at the helm, the resort emphasizes compliance, oversight, and transparency. Additional structural reforms are anticipated as the property adapts its leadership framework to meet regulatory demands.
