Former Governor Hired by Resorts World Las Vegas - SCCG Management

Resorts World Las Vegas has named former Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval as chairman of its board of directors, marking a notable leadership transition for the property as it deals with regulatory scrutiny and organizational changes. Sandoval takes over from Jim Murren, who will stay on as chairman emeritus.

This decision follows nearly a year of Sandoval’s service on the board. His experience includes roles as Nevada’s governor, attorney general, chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission, and a federal judge. Resorts World Las Vegas executives believe his regulatory expertise and leadership skills will assist the property in navigating ongoing compliance oversight.

The appointment follows a challenging phase for the property. Earlier, the company agreed to a multimillion-dollar settlement with state regulators after compliance failures were discovered. Part of the agreement includes strengthening internal controls, restructuring departments, and enhancing board-level compliance oversight.

Following the settlement, the property underwent several executive changes. Alex Dixon moved from CEO to an advisory role, while Carlos Castro, who previously managed operations and finances, was promoted to president. These changes are part of a broader strategy to stabilize management and prioritize regulatory responsibility.

Sandoval’s promotion to chairman aligns with the strategy to enhance regulatory compliance. His expertise with Nevada’s regulatory environment is expected to influence policy decisions and ensure alignment with state obligations. The resort aims to regain regulatory confidence and maintain momentum despite recent issues.

Resorts World Las Vegas, which opened in 2021 as the first new ground-up resort on the Strip in over a decade, is backed by its parent company, Genting. Designed to compete with major operators, the recent leadership adjustments demonstrate the company’s commitment to reinforcing corporate governance for long-term stability.

With Sandoval now leading the board, the resort is signaling a focused commitment to compliance, oversight, and transparent management. Officials indicate that further structural reforms are planned as the property adapts its leadership and meets regulatory standards.
