Jeff Luhnow has turned his focus from baseball controversy to using his analytical methods to nurture African players at Le Havre and Leganés.
After leaving baseball due to the 2019 Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal, Jeff Luhnow, who led the Astros and St. Louis Cardinals to three World Series with a data-centric strategy called “Extreme Moneyball”, is now channeling his expertise into football.
As the proprietor of a consortium of football clubs including Spain’s Leganés and Ligue 1’s Le Havre, Luhnow envisions transforming the development of African talent and creating a more direct path to Europe’s elite leagues. “Africa was identified early on as the optimal region to source talent for our European teams,” he states. “The scenario is quite similar to baseball where significant talent emerges from the Dominican Republic and Venezuela. Africa’s 54 nations offer a vast array of prospects.”
