The ongoing conflict at the Thailand-Cambodia border has resulted in bomb attacks on four casinos. Thai authorities confirmed on Thursday that they bombed Poipet, a key Cambodian border town, aiming at a logistics hub. Poipet is renowned for its casinos, attracting many Thai gamblers.
Tensions have been escalating since May when a Cambodian soldier was killed, leading to the resignation of Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. A leaked phone conversation with a former Cambodian president, where she criticized her country’s defense actions, contributed to her departure.
Violence in the border area has intensified recently, causing at least 38 fatalities and displacing 800,000 individuals.
The two nations have frequently disputed the 500-mile border, particularly around ancient temples. Currently, the border remains closed due to ongoing fighting.
