The border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia has resulted in bombs hitting four casinos. On Thursday, Thai authorities confirmed the bombing of the Cambodian border town of Poipet, targeting a logistics center. Poipet is known for its casinos, which attract many Thai gamblers.
Tensions have been rising since May when a Cambodian soldier was killed, leading to the resignation of Thailand’s then-Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. This followed the release of a phone conversation where she criticized her country’s defense forces.
Recent fighting in the border area has caused at least 38 deaths and displaced 800,000 people. The two countries have long disputed the 500-mile border, particularly over ancient temples. The border is currently closed due to ongoing conflict.
