Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce, known for his Hall of Fame career, might extend his time on the field for another year. Kelce is completing his two-year, $34.25 million contract and has mentioned that he will decide by next March if he will continue playing.
“I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not — or whether they want me back or not,” Kelce told ESPN. “I’d like to make that decision before they’ve got to get draft picks and free agency opens to fill the roster appropriately. All that will be at the end of the season. I won’t be thinking about it until then.”
A return would mean Kelce enters his 14th season, all spent with the Chiefs. The 36-year-old is having another excellent year, on track for his eighth season with over 1,000 receiving yards, furthering his record for tight ends.
Kelce holds several NFL records, including the most playoff receptions (174), the most postseason games with 100 receiving yards (nine), and the most career postseason games with at least one receiving touchdown (15).
He also owns the record for most playoff receiving touchdowns by a tight end (20) and the most career receiving yards by a tight end (1,416). Kelce is a central figure in the Chiefs’ offense, serving as a reliable target for Patrick Mahomes. Playing another season might result in his final contract of an impressive career.
