Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce, with a Hall of Fame-worthy career, might continue playing another year. Kelce is in the final year of his two-year, $34.25 million contract but has not ruled out another season, planning to decide by next March.
“I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not — or whether they want me back or not,” Kelce told ESPN. “I’d like to make that decision before they’ve got to get draft picks and free agency opens to fill the roster appropriately. All that will be at the end of the season. I won’t be thinking about it until then.”
A return would mark Kelce’s 14th season, all spent with the Chiefs. At 36, he remains productive, on track for his eighth season exceeding 1,000 receiving yards, expanding his record for tight ends. Kelce holds numerous NFL records, including the most playoff receptions (174), most postseason games with 100 receiving yards (nine), and most career postseason games with one or more receiving touchdowns (15).
He also has the playoff record for the most receiving touchdowns by a tight end (20) and most career receiving yards by a tight end (1,416). Kelce remains vital to the Chiefs’ offense, serving as Patrick Mahomes’ reliable target. If he plays another season, his next contract could be the last of his brilliant career.
