There’s nothing quite like Yankee Stadium. A celebrated New York City landmark, this iconic venue stands as a shrine to baseball, drawing thousands of fans from around the world to experience America’s pastime in its most authentic form.
While steeped in history, tradition, and legendary moments, Yankee Stadium continues to evolve—and these days, the energy is booming just above Monument Park.
At the heart of this modern-day excitement is Jay Jung, the official DJ for the New York Yankees. During roughly 25 home games each season, Jung takes his spot on the Mastercard Batter’s Eye Deck in center field, energizing the crowd with a carefully selected, high-octane soundtrack that sets the tone for the day’s action.
“My goal is to help fans have fun,” Jung told amNewYork. “Clap, dance, move around a bit—maybe end up on the Jumbotron. If you’re smiling and enjoying the experience, then I’ve done my job.”
Jung’s musical journey began in 1994 at a high school house party, where he was captivated by two DJs whose beats electrified the crowd. That night, he knew he had found his calling. After months of persistence, he convinced local mentors to help him hone his craft.
From there, he became a fixture in New York City’s nightclub scene, spinning tracks Thursday through Saturday nights for more than a decade. In 2015, he made the leap into professional sports, landing the gig as the Brooklyn Nets’ official DJ—a role he still holds at the Barclays Center.
His growing reputation in the sports entertainment world eventually led him to the Bronx. In 2022, Jung became the Yankees’ official DJ, calling the opportunity nothing short of a dream come true.
“As a kid, I would have been thrilled just to DJ a Sweet 16,” he said. “Then, getting into New York nightclubs felt like I’d made it. Never in a million years did I think I’d be playing music in front of 50,000 fans at Yankee Stadium. As a lifelong Yankees fan, it’s beyond anything I imagined.”
Jung’s presence is felt from the moment the gates open. He starts spinning during the team’s warmups, fueling the players’ routines with an upbeat mix. Once fans arrive, he shifts gears for a pre-game set that primes the stadium for an unforgettable experience.
Staying relevant is crucial in his line of work, and Jung keeps close tabs on current music trends. Lately, his go-to tracks include hits like “HOT TO GO!” by Chapel Roan, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey, and “APT” by ROSÉ and Bruno Mars. He also injects some hometown pride into his playlist, featuring the Yankees’ official anthem, “Yankee, Baby” by Johnny 2 Phones.
With a knack for reading the crowd, Jung fine-tunes his family-friendly sets so that fans of all ages—from toddlers to seniors—can join in the fun.
“It’s not always about what I want to play,” he explained. “It’s about what the fans want to hear. Seeing people dancing and vibing—that’s what makes me happiest.”
Yankee Stadium has become the stage for some of Jung’s most unforgettable career moments. One that stands out came last October, when shortstop Anthony Volpe blasted a grand slam in Game 4 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“I’ve been doing this for about 10 years, and that was the highlight of my entire sports DJ career,” Jung recalled. He vividly remembers the stadium practically shaking from the roar of the crowd, a wave of pure energy that he wishes everyone could experience.
“The fans are incredible—absolutely diehard,” he said. “No matter the score, they’re here, cheering every game. The energy never dips. The loyalty is unmatched. I’ve never seen anything like it, and it’s amazing to be a part of.”
