Despite Twitch’s prohibition on gambling-related content, prominent streamer xQc might attempt a daring move by streaming gambling material from Kick on Twitch, enabled by the Counter-Strike StarLadder Budapest Major’s exemption from the regulations.
xQc Plans to Circumvent Twitch’s Rules
Recently, Twitch permitted the Counter-Strike StarLadder Budapest Major to be aired, despite Rollbit crypto casino being a major partner. Tournament organizers are determined to avoid any verbal mentions of the brand during broadcasts, restricting its presence to physical branding only.
xQc has suggested he could exploit this situation to reintroduce Stake into his Twitch content, something he has been unable to do since the platform’s gambling ban. He believes that by excluding the operator’s logo from the on-screen overlay, he could work around Twitch’s rules. On Thursday, he proposed a plan to hang a large Stake banner behind him while streaming slot gameplay.
If he proceeds with this plan, creators in the gambling sector will be closely observing Twitch’s reaction. With over 12 million followers, xQc is among the platform’s top ten creators, and if his strategy succeeds, others may be encouraged to try similar tactics to bypass Twitch’s stringent policies. Some social media users have even speculated that the platform might consider relaxing its regulations due to recent declines in advertising revenue.
It’s Been Several Years Since Twitch Banned Gambling
Twitch prohibited the streaming of certain crypto gambling websites back in 2022. The ban focused on sites offering slots, roulette, and dice games that were not licensed in the US or in “other jurisdictions that provide sufficient consumer protection.” The primary reason cited by the Amazon-owned platform was concerns over potential harm to users.
The policy revision followed threats from several of the platform’s top streamers to leave if Twitch did not amend its rules on gambling streams. Twitch did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Gambling on the platform has long been contentious, even before the ban was enacted. The company faced criticism from both streamers and users for inadequately controlling popular gambling categories that could pose risks, especially to younger audiences. Stake.com, Rollbit.com, and Duelbits.com were initially banned. However, over the years, more online casinos have been added to the list.
