WWE star R-Truth, known as Ron Killings, is swapping the ring for the stage in a special one-time musical act in New York City this month.
Truth will perform at the SOBS music venue in Soho on Nov. 16, promising a historic event for himself and his fans.
“They’re going to be part of history. It’s the first time ever, so you can be part of history. We make history every day, leaving behind a legacy,” Truth stated.
For Truth, that legacy includes wrestling and music. For years, he has showcased his musical talent in the ring through entrances like “Get Rowdy” and “What’s up.” In an interview with amNewYork, Truth revealed that while fans have seen this blend for years, it holds deeper significance for him.
“Wrestling saved my life. I grew up with wrestling, remembering stars like Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, Magnum TA, and the four horsemen. I met Jack Crockett in a halfway house. I was always into music because of the church and my family. My dad played guitar and sang, so music was in my blood,” Truth explained. “I met Jack Crockett and faced many adversities in life, in and out of jail many times. I was tired of being tired. I wanted change, something different.”
Truth shared he formed a bond with Crockett, who saw his struggles and talents. Crockett became a mentor, teaching him wrestling and showmanship.
“I got into wrestling. I started managing, then wrestling. Many don’t know, I wrestled in NWA Wildside with AJ Styles before TV. I’d rap and do a country song after. Music with wrestling has been my blueprint, a testimony for those with doubt and fear, who’ve faced adversity. I’m known worldwide,” Truth reflected.
Truth credits these challenges leading to the Nov. 16 concert, a moment he attributes to WWE President Nick Khan. Years ago, Truth gave Khan a CD, and Khan, now part of WWE’s leadership, remembered it.
“I gave him a CD called Invincible years ago. We spoke, and he knew my passion for music, wanting to help. So, Nov. 16 is Nick’s idea, a gift from him,” Truth said. “WWE is my home, and their support for this music event is creating a new blueprint.”
