A man has died after a woman spiked his drink in a failed robbery attempt. Raylin Marie Benzie was seen at the ilani Casino Hotel Resort in Ridgefield, where she approached a 38-year-old man named Arslan.
Surveillance footage captured Benzie and Arslan leaving the gaming area and heading to the 10th floor, where Arslan had a hotel room. They spent about two hours there before Benzie left alone and later returned with another unidentified man, staying for another 10 minutes.
At this point, Arslan had been drugged and was possibly already deceased. Housekeeping discovered him unresponsive and alerted the police, leading to an investigation. Arslan was pronounced dead shortly after.
Benzie was identified as the woman who accompanied Arslan to his room and brought the other man in. Benzie claimed she was unaware of Arslan’s death or the presence of drugs, specifically fentanyl, in his system.
Benzie alleged that Arslan propositioned her for sex for $1,200, which she refused after being offended and left the room. However, police obtained telecommunication records where Benzie admitted to something suspicious.
She messaged a friend about doing something “stupid” that could result in a long prison term. The second man was identified and questioned, revealing that Benzie intended to use a date rape drug but resorted to fentanyl, which was fatal.
Further evidence showed that Benzie was aware of her actions, admitting to a friend that Arslan had “probably overdosed” and “was going to die.” Benzie, who has previous criminal records, was released on bail awaiting trial for first-degree murder, controlled substances homicide, first-degree robbery, second-degree theft, and poisoning. If convicted, she faces a lengthy prison sentence, potentially life.
