Wednesday’s football tips: Try an 11/10 Newcastle bet as they take out their derby pain on Fulham

Newcastle will be desperate to bounce back from their derby disappointment when they take on Fulham tonight in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

Nick Woltemade’s horror own goal condemned the Magpies to a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland on Sunday and the Toon Army are far from happy.

But Eddie Howe’s men can lift the gloom tonight if they see off Fulham to take another step closer to a third Wembley showpiece in four seasons.

Fulham head into this game with their confidence boosted after edging a five-goal thriller with Burnley on Saturday evening to move further clear of the Premier League drop zone.

They reached the semi-finals of the EFL Cup two years ago but the bookies don’t fancy their chances of a repeat this season, with Marco Silva’s men as big as 4/1 with Betfred.

Newcastle are 8/11 favourites, which seems fair enough given they’ve gone eight without defeat at St James’ Park since Arsenal scored a late winner in September.

The Magpies have scored two or more in all eight of those games so I’m going to combine the home win with over 1.5 goals at 11/10 with BetVictor.

Howe’s side haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last eight in all competitions so combining BTTS and over 2.5 goals also looks good at 6/5 with SkyBet.

Manchester City vs Brentford

Manchester City are purring again and have the chance to make it six wins in a row when Brentford come calling in the EFL Cup tonight.

Pep Guardiola’s men have moved to within two points of Arsenal in the Premier League and also have one foot in the knockout stages of the Champions League after beating Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

The EFL Cup is probably pretty low on their list of priorities and Guardiola has admitted he will make lot of changes for this quarter-final tie.

City are still hot favourites at a best 2/5 with Bet365 but adding on BTTS boosts their price to 15/8 with the same firm.

There could be some value in the player markets as Guardiola rings the changes. Winger Oscar Bobb is one who could be unleashed and he’s a decent 17/10 at BetMGM to score or assist.

Dundee United vs Celtic

Poor old Wilfried Nancy is in the eye of a storm already at Celtic after losing his first three games and can ill afford another slip away to Dundee United in the SPFL Premiership tonight.

Sunday’s 3-1 loss to St Mirren in the League Cup Final has heaped pressure on the Frenchman and he needs to start delivering with some tough festive fixtures coming up.

The players look bemused by his new 3-4-3 formation so Dundee United could offer some value in the double chance at 9/5 with 888Sport.

Jim Goodwin’s side are in poor form, going seven without a win, but battled out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Rangers at Tannadice a fortnight ago.

Backing more goals should pay off tonight and combining BTTS and over 2.5 goals pays 11/10 at Bet365.

I thought St Mirren would get some joy in the air against Celtic and backed one of their strikers to score a header at 10/1. Unfortunately, the man I picked, Mikael Mandron, got ill on the night of the game and was left on the bench, with striker partner Jonah Ayunga heading home instead.

The Hoops have now conceded four headed goals since Nancy took over so there could be some long-odds value in that market tonight.
